Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Announces Results of the 2024 Household ICT Usage and Access Survey

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship has announced the results of the 2024 Household ICT Usage and Access Survey, noting that these data are essential for measuring progress in digital transformation and identifying existing gaps. The results also contribute to shaping policies and strategies that enhance digital inclusion and equip citizens with the necessary skills to achieve sustainable development. In addition, these indicators serve as key inputs for international reports, such as those of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), strengthening Jordan’s global standing and reflecting its continued efforts in the digital domain.

Internet Usage Among Households and Individuals

Survey results show that Jordanian households and individuals are more connected than ever. The percentage of households with home internet access reached 96.5%, exceeding 98% in the Capital Governorate. The proportion of individuals who used the internet increased from 92.5% in 2023 to 95.6% in 2024, surpassing the global average of 67.6% and the Arab regional average of 69.6%. The survey also indicated that 94.8% of individuals use the internet on a daily basis.

Smartphone Penetration and Expenditure

The survey revealed that 97.5% of households owned a smartphone in 2024, compared to 95.7% in 2023. At the governorate level, smartphone availability in Amman reached 99%, the highest among all governorates. Average monthly household expenditure amounted to JOD 15.2 on fixed-line services and JOD 21.2 on mobile services, compared to JOD 17.1 for fixed-line and JOD 22.6 for mobile services in 2023.

Computer Ownership and Digital Skills

Results showed an increase in the percentage of households owning a computer, reaching 42.4% in 2024 compared to 36.4% in 2023. Ownership was distributed among laptops (34.3%), tablets (21.6%), and desktop computers (15.2%). At the individual level, 34.7% of individuals reported using computers. The most common digital skills included copying and pasting (79.6%), downloading software (64.1%), and preparing electronic presentations (32.4%).

E-Government Services

With regard to e-government services, the survey showed that 38.1% of individuals had accessed at least one e-government service. Among them, 98.9% reported that the services were easy to use, 99.0% confirmed the speed of service delivery, and 99.3% indicated that the services were fully digital.

It is worth noting that the survey, which has been conducted annually since 2007 in cooperation with the Department of Statistics, included a sample of 8,270 households in its 2024 edition. Data were collected to ensure representativeness at the national level, across the Kingdom’s three regions (North, Central, and South), and at the governorate level, based on the 2015 Population and Housing Census framework.
